My Shitty News of the Week
Okay... so my shitty news of the week is that I most likely will not be coming to PEI this summer. Or taking much vacation at ALL! I found out how much vacation time I will have from my new position... 4 days. Lovely. Sigh.
It all has to go down to semantics and how jobs are classified. According to Uni policy my first job in 2005 at the Uni was casual and I left it for another positon; therefore I did not earn vacation time in 2005. Okay. I can accept that. My next job at the Uni is classified as part-time, so I get 7.5 vacation days there - 8 this year as I have been employed for one year. Okay.
Now, my second job I am currently doing at UW is also part-time and as such I am now classified as a Full-Time employee - with 3 weeks vacation. However, I do not get that vacation until AFTER my first year as a full-time employee as they currently state I am a"Regular Full-time Staff During Their First Year of Employment." It's the wording. Technically I am not in my first year of employment at the university, but I am in my first year of regular full-time employment according to Human Resources... Lovely. At least I get Christmas off. Maybe I'll go home to PEI then....
Suffice it to say that I am NOT happy. I had such a busy shitty year that my vacation is pretty much all I have been looking forward to... and now I don't even get that. I feel like I did all this work for nothing. Like I worked my ass off, took on an extra job, lost all my free-time and then got punished for it. When I was part-time I was able to take a full-two weeks off, due to finagling and schedule rearranging. Oh well, it will be a very busy summer while I work my butt off with my whole 4 days vacation!
I don't want to give up hope yet. There may be a chance this might alter. I have no idea. I will have to wait and see what HR says about it. I am hoping that perhaps there will be some finagling here.
Ok. Peeps, time to bounce.
M./
